Following the great success of Sail Bunaken 2009 in North Sulawesi last August, the same organising committee is now preparing Sail Banda 2010 in Maluku. The host of the event is Banda Islands in Central Maluku District of Maluku Province. Banda Islands consist of three big islands, namely Banda, Bandaneira and Gunung Api, and several sorrounding smaller islands. The first two big islands are homes of spices such as nutmeg, while Gunung Api is relatively barren and volcanic.
Banda Islands are situated in Banda Sea which is known for its deepest basin in the world. Because of this, Banda Islands is the perfect home of very diversed tropical coral reefs and ornamental sea fish. Being currently less densely populated, sea and natural environment remains clean and free from pollutions. The natural undersea beauty is still well preserved and diving there will bring unforgetable moments and experiences to divers.
Sail Banda 2010 is scheduled to happen between 27 July and 28 August 2010. There are still plenty of time for the international committee to prepare the event. Looking back how they worked in Bunaken and what are doing now, it seems that Sail Banda 2010 will even become bigger and more successful than Bunaken. This will include the uniquely undersea Indonesian flag raising ceremony that will be the icon marking the event. In Bunaken, the divers participating in the undersea flag raising ceremony recorded themselves in Guinnes Book of Records for being the largest number of divers to involve in such events. Next year, the drivers seem to be going to be renewed their own record.
The international committee of Sail Banda 2010 has set up an official website for potential visitors and guests to get updated information and news on the event
